About Department

The mail goal of the Department of Chemistry is to disseminate the up-to-date chemical knowledge by utilizing the latest teaching tools to the students and nurturing them adequately in serving the society by taking up chemistry as their career. The department has established itself as a dynamic center for both education and research at the frontiers of chemical sciences. It offers PG and PhD courses covering the wide gamut of topics in chemistry and closely related areas. It also provides comprehensive research training to nurture future scientists, teachers, and technical personnel in the field. Accordingly, the department is equipped with modern infrastructural and instrumental facilities.
Department of Chemistry has six regular faculty (Professor-1 and Associate Professor-5) with high expertise in teaching & research in India and abroad. Faculty members have won recognition in the form of prestigious awards and fellowships of the various academic bodies both within and outside the country like DST-Young Scientist, Alexander von Humboldt (Germany), UGC-Raman etc. In addition, five academic consultants (contractual basis) with remarkable teaching experience were also engaged in the academic activities. One Junior Assistant, two lab assistants, two office assistants, and one store keeper are supporting the departmental activities as non-teaching staff.
The high quality advanced research pursued by the faculty members with a goal of providing possible solutions to health, energy, and environmental problems, supplement and complement the teaching and training of post-graduate and Ph.D. students. The department has made high up impact on the chemical research panorama and is widely applauded at the national and international levels. Hence, it receives large number of research grants from funding agencies like Department of Science and Technology (DST), Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission (UGC), Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) etc.

Courses Offered

M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry) program: 2 Years
The two-year M.Sc. program lays equal emphasis on Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry. The program lasting four semesters comprises 4 courses each in Organic, Inorganic, Physical and General Chemistry, 2 laboratory courses each and elective courses. Some of the unique features of the program are the core courses in Chemistry, seminar, elective courses and project work in the final semester.

Admission
Minimum Qualification: B.Sc. with a minimum of 55% marks in the aggregate of Science subjects with Chemistry as one of the subjects.
Selection: APPGCET an entrance test conducted in computer based mode for a duration of 90 minutes by the Govt. of A.P. The written test consists of objective type multiple choice questions.

Ph.D. Program

The Ph.D. program (Full time & Part time) is entirely research-oriented in which a student undertakes research under the guidance of the faculty of the Department in an area chosen by him/her and approved by the University. Students admitted to the Ph.D. program are required to satisfactorily complete a course work within the first two semesters; the modules consist of core courses in research methodology and specialization course chosen on the basis of their background and the requirements of their research.
Minimum Qualification: M.Sc. OR equivalent degree with at least 55% marks.
Selection: Admission to the Ph.D. program is based on an entrance test called APRCET which includes an objective type online test and interview.
